The Helmet
Every family has certain digital media that could be photo, videos, etc. that are significant to them. These things could be bad if it was the last photo before a family member or pet died or it could be something good that reminds the family of a funny time or something else significant. My family has a couple of these, but one that really stands out is a picture of me when I was only a couple of months old in a Michigan football helmet. As the story goes, my dad wanted to get a couple of photos that my mom never would have approved of. I was put in many different places, but the one that became a big deal when my dad put me inside a Michigan football helmet. He took a couple of pictures and videos, but when he went to take me out, he realized I was stuck. How he managed to get me out will never truly be known, but it still stands as a funny moment. While this was a funnier story, it is still retold similar to the story of the girl who filmed the Kennedy assassination. This videotape captured the moments leading up to and the aftermath of that fateful day in November 1963. This moment is undoubtably recalled years later from the same little girl who filmed the video and is probably now in her seventies. This highlights how a single moment that is captured by some kind of digital media can bring together a family in a good way or a bad way. That is the power of the new types of digital media like photos and videos. They can make a story more powerful. It is one thing to just hear what happened, but it is completely different to actually see what it was like.
I like how you used anectdotal evidence to express your opinion about the importance of photos/videos. You do good job connecting the "signinficiant family digital media" to the power of the new types of digital media. Good job Ga!
